Flamingo-Shark River Fishing Expedition

On Saturday, the 18th, Tom Wichers & his fishing team, Ian, Skyler, & Van hooked up the flats boat & headed south at 0 Dark Hundred for a full day of fishing. Fishing from the boat went well with dozens of trout, red fish, and snook releases.
.
Skyler & Van found wading a little testy, however. As Tom says, "Extreme wading competition is not for the weak".

Club Member Woody Woodruff Takes Top Honors

Our very own Woody Woodruff with Towboat US won the Ernest Hemingway look alike contest last night in Jensen Beach. He's said to have won a weekend at the Marriott, some free drinks, a trophy and was asked to go down and complete at the Key West competition. He was one out of 22 who competed.

Congrats, Woody!

(There's speculation that he may not be able to make Key West, as the timing conflicts with a Gabby Hayes look alike contest in Laramie.)

IGFA to Become SSC Tournament Sponsor

Thanks to the efforts of Karl Gloeckner, IGFA will become a sponsor of the Small Boat Tournament in June. Says Lesley Arico of IGFA, "Certainly we'll support you".

Since the Club and IGFA have so many beliefs in common relating to sportsmanship and conservation of sport fishing and our resources, we are pleased to have this "international" endorsement. Among the things that the SSC and IGFA have in common is that both organizations were formed in the 1930's and quickly took leadership roles in conservation and protection of our fisheries. IGFA's Adopt-A-Billfish tagging program is a research program using innovative technology of pop-up satellite archival tags (PSAT) to monitor billfish movement patterns. This program reflects a modern-day approach to SSC's Release pins instituted in the 1940's.

Thanks Karl & Lesley!

Offshore Fishing Picks Up

(Click on pictures to view Mike & VJ's fish.)

Mike Fogel & team on the Challenge (Capt. VJ) had another good day yesterday (Fritz Grells' birthday) bringing in yellowfin and dolphin and releasing a sail. As can often be the case, a couple of testy sharks got away with a couple of larger tuna that they couldn't get to the boat fast enough. They ran across to the east side of the stream where other boats were finding fish as well. Glen Cameron on the Floridian hooked up a double Blue Marlin, and released one.

Others running across over the past 10 days or so and reporting good fishing are Scotty on the Bone Shaker, Neil Subin on Outlaw, and Tom Wichers on Prime Time. Most have been catching dolphin, yellowfin, sailfish, some wahoo, and blue marlin.
