March 2015 Docktail Party/Fishing Clinic

We had a great turnout of Stuart Sailfish Club members along with a lot of new faces for great weather, food and fishing tips!  The evening started off with a tasty BBQ pulled pork dinner followed by some great bottom fishing tips by Captain Rocky Carbia of Safari 1 Deep Sea Fishing and ended with Captain Pat Price of DayMaker Charters, sharing tips & techniques on bottom fishing, cobia fishing and springtime trolling for dolphin.

Both captains did an informative and entertaining show and tell of their (now not so) secret tips of successful fishing for numerous types of great fish right here on our treasure coast.  Thanks again to Captain Rocky and Captain Pat Price!

Update from 2013 Scholarship Recipient Brisley Lopez

“School is going fine, and I've been real busy this semester! I got another job so now I have two! I've also made a big choice to double major. I'm aiming for a BS in biology and a BA in chemistry!  I'm currently taking Physics 1, Chemistry 2, and a biology elective that is a mix of biology and psychology... I forget what exactly it's called but it's a mouthful.

Hope to see you soon in the summer if i get a chance!”

Schedule permitting, Brisley plans to help out at some of our summer events so we look forward to seeing her soon!

The Docktail Party/Fishing Clinic

The Docktail Party/Fishing Clinic on March 6th was a great success. In addition to great food, great weather and a great turnout, Capt. Jimmy Hardee of Challenge Sportfishing Charters and Russell Frederick of the Dog House Fishing Charters did a hands on demonstrations of ballyhoo rigging. One of the ladies even gave up a fine manicure to get her hands right in there and learn from the pros!  Pat Silver showed how to rig mullet for catching Wahoo, while Andy Kubiak demonstrated how to rig for setting up your dredge.  It was all truly informative.

13 year old Jake Cross of Port Salerno amazed everyone with his net casting abilities!  Several people stepped up to give it a try but no one succeeded putting the 14 feet net in a nice circle like Jake did!
