“Fishing 101 with Dave & Friends” for Florida Sheriff Youth Ranches April 18, 2015

Dave & Joyce Powell stopped in to visit at one of the FSYR villas several months ago.  They noticed that the kids who had received rods & reels at our Jr. Angler Tournament had them in closets, unused.  It came to light that the reason was because they did not know how to tie a knot, rig their rod, or cast.

Dave then decided to organize SSC member volunteers to teach these great kids a thing or two about fishing.  These members, along with the help of the great folks at FSYR, held a Fishing Clinic/Tournament in Bartow, FL on Sat. April 18th.  Kids from other ranches were bussed in, our group of volunteers drove up with many donations of rods, reels and tackle, and our host ranch provided a delicious BBQ lunch.  Each team had a catchy name and took their group out and around the two large lakes on the FSYR property and proceeded to catch fish!

The kids were happy to learn from our volunteers, maybe a little less happy with touching the worms, and very happy to invite us all in to see how they live, their rooms and their house parents. All in all, it was enjoyed by everyone and we look forward to our FSYR friends coming to fish the Jr. Angler Tournament with us this August! See below for the teams and awards!  Thank you to all those who helped make this a very special day!  See all of the days photos on our website at Stuart Sailfish Club Pictures link.
