Bahamas Report

Talked with owner/captain of the Kingsbury who took the family over to Port Lukaya last Saturday from Sailfish Marina, and left their 55' Viking there a couple of days ago and flew back north.

Capt. Davenport said the people at the Grand Bahama Yacht Club were as accommodating and delightful as always, great service, great food, and the water taxi to the square was always available. Pricing....didn't know the exact cost of diesel, as he filled up here & didn't have to over there, but others said it was about a dollar more than what is paid in Florida. They paid $4/gallon for gasoline for the dingy in the marina. Cost/ft. for slip, $.71. Wow, that's cheap...what happened to $3.00! (Editorial comment...watch cost for incidentals, such as metered electric, up to $400/month or more.)

Plenty of space available in the marina (Grand Bahama Yacht Club) when you swing to the right from entry through the Bell Channel. Also, lots of space available at the marina on the square if you turn to the left. Weston Hotel had maybe 10% occupancy, only 2 restaurants open.

Fishing...lousy....similar to what we are experiencing here right now. Local captains confirmed the experience.

So, planning a trip to Port Lukaya....they'll be happy to have you! Later this month things will get a little more crowded with the Bacardi Billfish Tournament coming up as well as spring vacation for the northern high schools & colleges, but I expect they'll still have room for you.
